CMCK Public Art works with artists and commissioners to create opportunities for exceptional contemporary public art that challenges expectations. An independent consulting practice, we offer tailored commissioning, curatorial, planning, project and collection management services to government agencies, public sector organizations, private clients, developers, and artists.

Assessments, Plans + Policy

CMCK Public Art writes public art program reviews, curatorial collection assessments, master plans, collection plans, guidelines, policies, and procedures to help clients achieve their public art goals.

Commissioning + Curating

We use a curatorial approach when commissioning art for public space. We work with clients to develop unique, focused public art calls and commissions that respond to the specific context. We create connections between the artist, the client, and the public throughout the commissioning process so that the artist is well supported and the artwork is situated for success.

Public Art Project Management

We manage all phases of the public art commissioning process, from framing the opportunity through to the artist selection, concept and design development, installation, and project launch. We support the artist and client through all stages of the project’s development, including communications and documentation. We tailor our team to meet the specific requirements of each project.

Engagement + Education

Engagement is integral to the public art process and we work with our clients to develop tailored engagement experiences. We also develop public art workshops, symposia, public talks, and other public programs to stimulate critical conversations about art in public space. We have taught contemporary art history, public art in context, curatorial practice, and professional practice at the post-secondary level.

Collection Management + Art Advisory

We advise clients on how best to build and manage their collections. After 30 years of working in contemporary art we have a broad network of artists, gallerists, and auctioneers, who help us find the right artwork for you. We work with art professionals who know how to care for your collection, providing assistance with cataloguing, appraisals, art handling, custom installations, documentation, and art writing.
